Doris Elizabeth Scott Holland, 86, passed away Monday, August 7, 2017 in Granbury. She was born in Comanche, Texas May 2, 1931 to Hogan and Vada Scott. Doris graduated from Comanche High School in 1948. She attended John Tarleton College for 2 years, graduated from Texas Tech University in 1952 and then later furthered her education at Oklahoma State University where she received a Master’s Degree in 1970. While in college, on September 1, 1950, she married the love of her life and best friend Winfred Holland. Doris devoted 38 years to the Education field serving as a classroom teacher, Department Chairman, and Vocational Supervisor at various Texas School Districts and Vocational and Community Colleges in Texas and Oklahoma.
Throughout their career, Leonard and Doris relocated several times to various cities in Oklahoma and Texas. Upon their retirement, they moved to Granbury where they enjoyed family, friends and golf. Besides Doris’ passion for golf, she had a deep love for animals-especially her Himalayan Persian Cat “Dori”.
Doris is survived by 2 sisters, Morene McDougal and Carolyn McDougal, both of Comanche, 1 sister-in-law, 7 nieces and nephews, 8 great nieces and nephews and 7 great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her in-laws L.P. and Alice Holland, 2 brothers, 2 brothers-in-law, 1 sister-in-law, and 3 nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche. Visitation for the family will be from 11:00 to 12:00, lunch for the family will follow at First Baptist Church Comanche, and services will be held at 1:30 at Heartland with burial at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
