  RECENT OBITUARIES Joe Bill ?Papa Joe? Scrivner, Sr., passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, September 7, 2013. He was born September 14, 1922 to Fred and Judson Scrivner in Wister, OK. Following high school graduation in Plano, TX, Mr. Scrivner enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1941. In 1945, Mr. Scrivner married Miss Eleanor Green of Loraine, Texas. He was honorably discharged from the military with the end of World War II. Choosing education as his vocation, Mr. Scrivner graduated from McMurray College in 1948. He rose quickly from teacher, coach, principal, to superintendent of schools during his career. He has served in communities such as Murchison, Rankin, Goliad, Dumas, Taylor and Irving, Texas. Mr. Scrivner retired from Irving ISD in 1983, and he and Mrs. Scrivner moved to Lake Buchanan. Before returning to Irving, TX in 1992, Mr. Scrivner worked part time as an education consultant for Temple ISD and a professor at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in San Marcos, training and mentoring future school superintendents. Mr. Scrivner is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Scrivner, his parents, his sister and three brothers. He is survived by his two sons J. Bill Scrivner, Jr. and James T. and wife Sharon Scrivner. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Amy Jamieson and husband Matt of Phoenix, AZ; Tamara Scrivner of Anaheim, CA;  Christina Monjarraz and husband Jorge of Grand Prairie; Connor Scrivner and Stacy Lawrence of Irving; four great grandchildren and many cousins, nephews and nieces.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Plymouth Park United Methodist Church in Irving with interment following at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 13, 2013 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
