Flessner, Allen 16Allen George Flessner, 89, of Texas City, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016, at his residence. Allen was born May 2, 1927, in Moulton, Texas, to Paul and Julia Flessner. Allen served in the United States Navy during World War II. After 44 years, he retired from Union Carbide. He loved his job as a boiler maker/rigger and the relationships he developed there. Allen was very involved with Mainland Church of Christ serving as Deacon and Elder.  His favorite place was being outside watering the grass and maintaining his yard. Some of his fondest memories are his travels to Alaska, the mountains in New Mexico, and especially the Frio River with his family and friends. He was famous for his homemade peach ice cream.  Allen, who was known as Dad, Sunny, Big “O” and Opa, enjoyed collecting rocks and was an avid videographer. He grew up on a farm and loved to tell stories of his cotton-picking days and childhood memories. He loved the holidays and continuing family traditions like making “bunny nests”, decorating the Christmas tree, putting up the village and helping make Thanksgiving dressing. Allen’s favorite foods were fruitcake, homemade jelly, honey and peanut brittle.  Allen was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Joanne “Dobadee” Flessner, his daughter Debbie McCahon, and his sister Beatrice Vasek. Allen is survived by his wife Lela Flessner; two daughters: Lisa Caldwell and husband Scott and Abigail Saldua and husband Jeff; two sons: David Flessner and wife Claire, Chad Adams and wife Nikki; one sister: Patricia Kuntschik ; two brothers: Paul Flessner and Gene Flessner; three grandchildren: Andrew Caldwell and wife Kelly, David Flessner II and Rachel Flessner; and six great grandchildren: Jacob Saldua, Ava Saldua, Sophia Saldua, Morgan Adams, Paylin Adams and Jack Caldwell as well as many loved ones from his wife, Lela’s family.  A visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 with a funeral service in the Chapel of the James Crowder Funeral Home, La Marque with Tom Medlin officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, Webster, Texas.
