Pedro Balderas, Jr., 81, of Texas City passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 in Kindred Hospital in Webster, TX. He was born May 7, 1936 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Pedro and Vicenta Balderas.
He was a resident of Texas City since 1970 formerly of Galveston. Pedro retired after 42 years with the US Corps of Engineers. Pedro was a veteran in the US Air Force with the 81st Fighter Support Group. He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque and was a Lector at the church and a member of the Guadalupana Society. Pedro also was a member of the Woodman of the World Fraternity.
Pedro, known by many as Pete, was proud serving his country in the US Air Force. You would always see him wearing his US Air Force Veteran cap which he was very proud of. Pete loved spending time in Santa Fe at their property which was known as “The Rancho”. Pete had a love of horticulture. He had a passion for growing roses, fruit trees and cactus at his rancho and at his home. Another hobby for Pete was cooking which he would search recipes on the internet and always ready to prepare very new unique dishes for the family. He loved to experiment with new recipes. Pete was a long time collector of WWII Diecast. He had a large collection of airplanes and knew all the history of each plane. One of Pete’s biggest hobbies was going to garage sales or estate sales. He loved buying things even if he did not need it. He was also an excellent craftsman, whether he would build, repair or tear something down, he enjoyed every minute of his project.
Pedro was a man of strong faith. He loved God and his church. He enjoyed countless memories with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Pedro is survived by his wife of 58 years, Julia Leal Balderas, three daughters and sons-in-law: Veronica Balderas Reider and Scott of Boerne, TX, Bernice and Lloyd Hibbitts of Texas City, TX and Angela Balderas Allison and Todd of League City, TX; son Peter Anthony Balderas and spouse Jeff Wortham of Los Angeles, California; six grandchildren: Lauren Michelle Anderson and Toby, Royce Andrew Morales, Brittany Nicole Hibbitts, Diego Balderas Allison, Emilio Allison and Laura Day Ellender; sister-in-law Patsy Balderas, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be on Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm with a vigil at 7:00pm at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00am on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque with Father Chacko Puthumayil officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Emilio Balderas Allison, Diego Balderas Allison, Royce Morales, Toby Anderson, and best friends of 50 years Freddie Requenez and Steve Wipff.
