Deborah Anne Eckel Zimmerman, age 63, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2018, at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas, after a long fight for a lung transplant. She is survived by her four children, Patti Mueller, Christopher Eckel, Angela Wilson-Martinez and Allison Villanueva, 6 grandchildren and her husband of 33 years, Thomas Eckel. Debbie was a nurse for over 20 years, and dedicated her life to caring for others. She enjoyed bird watching, playing the piano, spending time with her grandchildren and traveling with her husband. Even through the last few months of her life were the hardest, she always put her family first; asking how her children/grandchildren were doing before talking about her own health. She was strong enough to fight for her life for 4 months and strong enough to know when she was tired of fighting. Debbie showed us how to love each other, how precious life is, but most importantly she taught us to love each day and to live our lives to the fullest.
A viewing will be held at Sunset Memorial Oaks Chapel in New Braunfels, Texas on Monday, July 2, 2018, from 5:00-9:00 PM. Prayer service at 7:00 PM, Chaplain Peter Olsen will be officiating.
