Funeral services for Eldie Voight, 82, of McDade, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Rev. Lee Eschberger and Rev. Willard Rother officiating. Burial will follow in the Paint Creek Cemetery in Paige, Texas. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Eldie Odies Voight was born on January 21, 1936 in Lee County, Texas, the son of Frank August Voight and Frieda Alvina (Domann) Voight. He was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Lexington, Texas and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas. Eldie was united in marriage to Edna Emma Ihlo on April 12, 1958 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in the Paint Creek Community of Bastrop County, Texas. He worked numerous jobs including dairy farming for several years before joining Elgin Butler Brick where he was a diesel mechanic for 40 years. Eldie was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Paint Creek and took care of the grounds of the church for many years. He was a member of the Paige Volunteer Fire Department, the Paige Community Center, served on the Paige Water Board, and was a school board member for the Paige School District. He loved music and played several different instruments. Eldie enjoyed fishing, growing and maintaining his garden and you couldn’t keep him off of his tractor. He especially enjoyed being around his family and friends, particularly his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Eldie passed away the afternoon of Monday, August 27, 2018 at Oakland Manor Nursing Center in Giddings.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Edna Voight; his parents, Frank and Frieda Voight; his sister, Gladys Ngiratumrang; his brothers, Franklin Voight and his wife, Margaret and Alton "Bunny" Voight; his parents-in-law, Max and Helena Ihlo and his brother-in-law, Herman Ihlo.
Eldie is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Stephen Kasper of Giddings and Ginger and James Clifford of Lexington; five grandchildren, Shawn Kasper of Austin, Kyle Kasper and his wife, Laurie of Giddings, Andrea Clifford of La Grange, Matthew Clifford of Lexington and Nathanael Clifford of Lexington; three great grandchildren, Kaden Kasper of Giddings and Allison Kasper and Will Kasper both of Austin; one sister, Ann Chernosky and her husband, Clarence of Dime Box; one sister-in-law, Lillie Voight of McDade; one brother-in-law, Ali Ngiratumrang of Red Oak as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Clifford, Nathanael Clifford, Kyle Kasper, Shawn Kasper, Russell Moerbe and Ernie Voight. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrea Clifford, James Clifford, Allison Kasper, Kaden Kasper, Laurie Kasper, Stephen Kasper and Will Kasper.
