A much-loved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Dr. Steven Joseph Vanderpoel, 68, of Rowlett, Texas passed away peacefully on September 13, 2018 with his family present. A member of First Baptist Church of Richardson, Steven was born to John and O’Niece on October 11, 1949 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and resided in Rowlett, Texas for the past 18 years, having moved from Colonial Heights, Virginia to accept the position of Vice President of Human Resources at Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind and more recently serving as a Developmental Aid at Mark Twain Elementary School. He received a BBA from Western Michigan University in 1971 and his PhD in Psychology from the University of West Virginia in 1975.

Steven is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Amy Vanderpoel, of Rowlett, Texas; son Nathan and wife Meghan of Lewisville; son Luke and wife Brooke of Rockwall; grandchildren Shashana, Cole, Miah, Cooper and Addison; siblings Marie McKinley and husband Judson of Kalamazoo, MI, Teresa Ellis and husband Bruce of Holland, MI, Thomas Vanderpoel and partner James of Washington, DC, John Vanderpoel and wife Mary Jo of Grand Rapids, MI, Gary Vanderpoel and wife Nina of Chicago, IL and brother in-law Jeff Willson and wife Carol of Kalamazoo, MI.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rowlett. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park in Rockwall. The family will receive friends at the Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rockwall on Tuesday, September 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
