MAJ (RET) Robert H. Thomas, 77, of Mount Pleasant, Texas passed away Jan. 20, 2019 in Tyler, Texas. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 38 years, Dixie Thomas of Mount Pleasant, Texas, daughter Sarah Linville (Ralph) of Dothan, Alabama, stepdaughter Sheri Loggins of Coppell, Texas, sisters Elizabeth Mason (Jim) of Coleyville, Texas, Shelly Tucci (Sam) of Austin, Texas, grandchildren Jennifer Moor (Eric) of Dothan, Alabama, and Michael Linville of Destin, Florida. A family memorial service was held in Mount Pleasant.
Robert gladly served his country in the infantry branch of the US Army for 22 years. He was proud to be an Airborne Army Ranger. He served two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. Among the many other awards he received during his service are the Air Medal (25th Oak Leaf Cluster), the Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, and the Purple Heart.
He retired as an instructor in Military Science at Furman Univeristy in Greenville, South Carolina. Rober enjoyed reading military history. He also looked forward to receiving each new issue of his subscription to Combat Aircraft where he could see and read about all the latest military aircraft of the United States and othe rcountries as well. Those were of great interest to him.
Robert was preceded in passing by his parents, one sister, one son, and one daughter. They all now celebrate their family reunion in the Lord’s house.
Robert H. Thomas was, above all else, a true patriot. May he rest in peace.
