Ross M. Morriss, age 86, of Omaha, Texas, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2019 in Dallas, Texas. Ross was born April 27, 1933 in Texarkana, Texas to Ross Morriss and Clarice Melton Morriss. He moved with his family to Mt. Pleasant in 1949 and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1952.
He was active in Boy Scouts of America in Texarkana and Troup 201 in Mt. Pleasant and was instrumental in forming the Order of the Arrow in Mt. Pleasant.
Ross attended East Texas State College in Commerce and graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree. He taught high school in Talco, Texas after graduating from college. In 1956, he taught at Little Rock Central High School.
In 1957, Ross joined Burroughs Wellcome Pharmaceutical company as a sales representative in Arkansas. He was transferred to the Dallas area where he spent the rest of his career working the teaching hospitals in the Dallas area before retiring in 1993 after 35 years of service.
After retirement, Ross returned to East Texas and enjoyed his retirement on his ranch in Omaha, Texas. His children and grandchildren were the joy of his life. He spent much of his retirement entertaining and being entertained by his grandchildren. Ross was an avid football fan and was a member of the Texas Longhorn Club for many years. His favorite professional teams were the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots where his son played for many years. Ross was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Naples.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Ken Keith Morriss.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Maxine Morriss; sons, Guy Walker Morriss and Jackie of Lexington, Kentucky, Victor Lee Morriss and Dana of Granbury, Texas, Richard Larson and Tracee of Kaufman, Texas, David Larson of Dallas; daughters, Deborah Horak and Dr. Ken Horak of Garland, Texas, and Andrea Larson of Greenville, Texas. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, lifelong friend Kenneth Pearson, and friend and caretaker, Hannah David.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019 at Harrison Funeral Home in Naples, Texas with Rev. Jay Barnes officiating.
Interment will follow at Douglassville Cemetery in Douglassville, Texas. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, the First United Methodist Church in Naples, of the charity of your choice.
