RAINES, Nathaniel

Nathaniel Raines, 83, of Corsicana was born December 5, 1936 in Clifton, Texas to James A. and Julia Lindsey Raines. Growing up on a farm, he loved all things outdoors; including caring for horses, fishing, gardening, and mowing, which also carried into his later years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 2, 1959 and served honorably. After serving his country, Nathaniel spent most of his career as a machinist, building oilfield equipment.
On October 30, 1965 he married the love of his life, Martha Marie Lynn. Together they loved and raised four children, Dennis, Marty, Debbie, and Robin. Family was the most important thing to Nathaniel, which was evident through his constant support, love, and devotion to them. Always a quiet man, he let his actions speak for themselves. He drew pleasure from the simple things in life such as traveling and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, to whom he was known as Pawpaw. As their grandchildren began to grow, Nathaniel and Martha enjoyed having them over for the weekend and taking them on vacations as often as they could. During his recent years, he enjoyed spending time in nature and watching his great-grandchildren grow and play.
Nathaniel was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 40 years, Martha Raines; siblings, James Raines, Bobby Raines, Jesse Raines, C.W. Raines, Juanita Raines Creel, and Mary Catherine Raines Price; son, Dennis Raines; and grandson, Jimmy Raines.
He is survived by his older sister, Rachel Belshaw, of Manteca, California; daughters, Marty Stevenson and husband Darrell, Debbie Massey and husband Terry, Robin Stevens and husband Scott; grandchildren, Billy Raines, Jaymie Nelson and husband Guillermo Vargas, Justin Lynch and wife Crystal, Lindsey McCartney and husband Ethan, Blake Gullatt and wife Presley, Logan Stevens and wife Ashlyn, and Jessica Stevenson; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
