John Calvin “Red” Bickham, Jr., age 90 of Crockett, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021. Red was born February 17, 1931 in Starks, Louisiana to John Calvin Bickham, Sr. and Willa Lee Glawson Bickham. After serving in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, he graduated from Lamar University with a bachelor’s degree. Red went on to receive his master’s degree in education from Sam Houston State University. He devoted a portion of his life to coaching with stints at Batson, Tomball, Centerville, Navasota, Grapeland, Crockett and Hemphill. Red was a member of the Lothrop Masonic Lodge #21 AM&FM.
Red is survived by his sons, Cal Bickham of Hemphill, Mark Bickham and wife, Catherine of Crockett; grandchildren, Anthony Bickham, Amy Bickham Offutt and husband, Brandon, Cole Bickham; six great-grandchildren; brother, Wattie Bickham of Orange. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jessie Mae “Jackie” Bickham; daughter, Colleen Bickham Burgin; parents, Calvin and Willa Bickham; brothers, Beamon Bickham, Horace Bickham, Riley Bickham, LeRoy Bickham, Mallie Bickham; and sister, Johnnie Lee Smith.
Funeral services for John Calvin “Red” Bickham, Jr. will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 18, 2021 in the First Baptist Church of Deweyville, 644 St. Hwy 272, Deweyville, TX with Rev. Damon Bickham officiating. Interment to follow at the Deweyville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Callaway-Allee Funeral Home.
