LANG, Dr. Robert Aldrich

Robert Aldrich Lang, DDS, of Corsicana, Texas, passed away on June 21, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his children. He was born at his parents' home on west 7th avenue on March 5, 1927, in Corsicana.
A Corsicana Tiger football player, he graduated from Corsicana High School in 1944. After graduation, he joined the navy, and disappointedly was medically discharged with severe asthma. He entered medical school at SMU, and later encountered a severe eye infection. It was felt that the strain from intense studying would permanently harm his eyes, so he had to take a year off to heal. He then returned to SMU and obtained his business degree in 1949.
On September 23, 1949, he married Beverly Bohmfalk at the First United Methodist Church in Corsicana, where her father Dr. Erwin F. Bohmfalk was the pastor. They were married for 71 years.
His continued love for medicine sent him to anesthesia and dental schools in Dallas. He told his children stories of his various jobs to fund his schools such as, a taxi cab driver, a Fuller brush salesman, and a nursing attendant at Baylor University Medical Center (where his daughter Susan works, and has now completed 30 years as a Neonatal ICU Supervisor, and a Flight Team/Outreach Coordinator, and his granddaughter Leslie, worked for 6 years as a Neonatologist before moving to Colorado).
In 1954 he graduated from Parkland School of Anesthesia, and Baylor School of Dentistry obtaining Anesthesia, Oral Surgery, Orthodontic, and General Dentistry degrees. In 1991 he became a Fellow in Cranio-Mandibular Orthopedics.
In 1955 Dr. Louis Gibson invited him to join the newly built Medical Arts Clinic, and he moved his family to Corsicana. While waiting for his office to be built, he performed anesthesia for the physicians of Medical Arts, Parkland Hospital, and Baylor University Medical Center. He practiced for 22 years at Medical Arts until he moved his practice to 500 West 3rd Ave. He retired in 2004 after completing his goal of '50 years in dentistry', with his last patient being his daughter, Susan.
He was past president of the 6th District Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry. He served his church and community on many boards including: The United Way, Corsicana Chamber of Commerce, the Anglican School of Theology, the Episcopal Medical Mission Foundation, and Family Services of Corsicana. Family Services was close to his heart as his cousin Adeline Watt, started Family Services over 100 years ago (now part of Compassion Corsicana).
The Lang family was an integral part of Corsicana's history, with his great-grandfather, Captain Charles Henry Allyn, a captain in the Union Army during the Civil War, former Corsicana city council member, former Mayor, co-founder of the First National Bank, the cotton mill, and St. John's Episcopal Church where Dr. Lang was a lifelong, fourth-generation member. He served as senior warden, many years on the vestry, and he loved singing in the choir for over 70 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Isabell and William Allyn (Rip) Lang, step mother Margaret (Maggie) Lang, brother William (Bill) Lang and wife Peggy, and infant son, Robert Bruce Lang (twin brother of David Aldrich Lang). He is survived by his wife, Beverly Bohmfalk Lang, daughter, Susan Grace Lang McClanahan and husband Chuck, sons David Aldrich Lang, John Frederick Lang and wife Connie, all of Corsicana, Granddaughters include Dr. Leslie McClanahan Pierce and husband Dr. Paul Pierce of Colorado Springs, Chasidy Ybarra of Tyler, Chanda Hendricks and husband Lee of Galveston, and grandsons Christopher McClanahan and wife Melinda of Little Rock, Jonathon Lang, twin grandsons, David Lang and wife, Raeleigh, and Timothy Lang and wife, Kylie, all of Corsicana. He has 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at Corley's Funeral Home in the Magnolia Chapel on Thursday the 24th from 5 – 7 p.m. Funeral services were held at St. John's Episcopal Church, on Friday the 25th at 1 p.m. with Father Ed Monk presiding. Graveside followed at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers included were Dr. John Smith, Gerry Harris, Jonathon Lang, Christopher McClanahan, David Lang, Tim Lang, River Watson, and Jaxsen Mahoney.
The family would like to thank the special caregivers that adored him, "Amazing Angels", Angela Kerney owner, and all his caregivers including Angela, Craig, Joy, Regina, and Shirley, in which the family is forever grateful. And to Dr. Jan Merida DNP, Rose Rash and Angels at Home, and New Century Hospice for their special care and help. Again, the family is eternally and forever grateful for all these wonderful caregivers that helped immensely.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested any donations to St. John's Episcopal Church of Corsicana.
