Hattie Mae Pennington Johnson (Judy), 87, of Corsicana passed from this life to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Navarro Regional Hospital. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Griffin – Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Griffin – Roughton Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Johnson and Anthony Pennington officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. at Buffalo Cemetery.
Judy, was the nickname given to her by her father and it stayed with her throughout her life. She was the youngest of seven children. She lived her younger years in Buffalo, TX. where she met the love of her life (A.J.) Argie James Johnson. They were married June 28, 1951 and together raised four children. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of God, now known as Calvary Worship Center for over 50 years. She loved the Lord with all her heart and her faith never waivered even in her darkest hours. Her love for her family was unconditional, she was our rock when we needed guidance and our soft place when we needed to feel safe.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Corine Pennington; her brothers, Ervin, Willie, Lee Earl and Ike; sisters, Etter Bell and Beatrice; her husband, A.J.; daughters, Gail Carden and Shirline Garland and grandson P.J. Richardson. She is survived by daughters, Frances Richardson and Kim Vasquez and friend and long time caregiver Cathy Mighton; nine grandchildren, Sarah Wallace, Ondrea Northern and Lance, Tonya Pearson and Josh, Kinon Prewitt, Jeanie Gullatt and fiancé James Sharp, Wes Vasquez and Misty, Chris Carden and Rachel, CeCe Carden, and Donna Buck; 22 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.
