Jasper Arthur “Hitch” Hitchcock From the Family of Jasper Arthur “Hitch” Hitchcock My dad left us on Sunday, November 6, 2011, surrounded by his family while we sang some of his favorite hymns and prayed The Lord’s Prayer to experience heaven’s joy: the “beatific vision,” seeing God face-to-face. I believe that the Holy Spirit sent the heavenly choirs of angels to greet him as his soul left his fragile human body and that paradise with God and all the angels and saints opened to my dearest dad through Christ’s great love and divine mercy.  He was very peaceful and kept looking up and reaching out to who he could only see.  It was such a beautiful passing and one we will always treasure in our hearts.   Steve, Robert and I moved into his home to care for him while he was in hospice for the past 5+ months.  I thank God every day that my husband Steve and teen aged son Robert were willing to do this as they gave up much of their freedom to enjoy the summer to take on supporting me as primary caregiver for my dad. Although he was bedridden and on a special diet, my dad remained alert, social and “in charge” telling us stories and reminding us of things that needed to be taken care of.  He also got to visit with his 4 grandchildren, meet his new granddaughter-in-law and enjoy his great grandkids, the highlight being his meeting his namesake Arthur Joseph born August 25th.  He was very proud that his newest great grandson would bear his middle name.   Every night we would gather around his hospital bed to pray.  When his turn came he always remembered “our troops wherever they might be” for their safety and their families, especially the children that are separated from their parents; for the children of the world, for his family who was taking care of him and for all those who were supporting us in helping to take care of him as well.  Our family would also like to thank those who came to visit him, those who brought him the Most Holy Eucharist, and those who came to “sit” with him to give me a break, give us an opportunity to attend Mass as a family, get to a doctor’s appointment, attend a wedding, and be present at Candlelight when Robert went to the Teen ACTS retreat.  You are a blessing to our whole community that you answered this call to service!   FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS:   Prayer Vigil (to include recitation of the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet) Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 7:30 pm Home of Linda and Bob Kehoe 16010 Manor Square Dr  Houston, TX  77062   Visitation will precede the Funeral Mass  Friday, November 11, 2011   9:45-10:15 am   St Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, Houston, TX Funeral Mass 10:15 am Luncheon in the parish hall following.   We hope you will join us to continue celebrating the wonderful life of “Hitch”.     The Rite of Committal will take place at the Houston National Cemetery at 2 pm for those who are able to join us.  My dad served in both the Korean War and WWII and as support personnel during the Vietnam War.
